About Me
I’ve spent the past 25 years in geospatial, but my career started in a place few career coaches can claim, the military. After a decade of service, I became Head of Geospatial for UK Special Forces, where precision and clarity under pressure weren’t optional, they were essential. Earlier in my career, I served as the geospatial expert in the UK’s Nuclear Bomb Disposal Team, where the stakes couldn’t have been higher. Those years taught me resilience, leadership, and the ability to navigate complexity in environments where the margin for error was zero.
When I left the military, I faced a new challenge: translating those skills into the business world. I started again from the ground up, first as a GIS Consultant, then as a Geospatial Architect, steadily proving the value of geospatial intelligence in industries that were still learning its power.
That journey eventually led me to become a Geospatial Platform Director, building enterprise-wide platforms that transformed how organisations used geospatial. A few years later, after delivering further enterprise value and tangible business outcomes, I was promoted to National Grid’s first Director of GIS – Group Head of Geospatial. In this FTSE 100 role, I now lead strategy across seven multi-billion-pound business units, supporting 30 million customers across the UK and US. Along the way, I’ve been recognised globally as a thought leader and innovator, sharing insights at events like the Economist Impact Space Economy Summit and the Geospatial World Forum, and the ESRI International Infrastructure Conference in Frankfurt.
But titles and achievements aside, what drives me most is helping others succeed in their own geospatial careers. I know what it’s like to start out as a junior analyst, wondering what’s next. I know the pressure of stepping into management and then leadership roles without a roadmap. And I know how valuable it is to have someone in your corner who has walked the path before.
